Three ways a design budget goes wrong
And what I do so they do not happen on your project.
- 01
Three quotes, three different numbers
The same brief comes back at wildly different prices because every studio counts the work differently. The calculator shows how I count it, before we even talk.
- 02
Extras that appear halfway through
Empty states, error screens and the second language are where budgets quietly grow. My scope lists every screen and state, so they are priced from the start.
- 03
Hours that keep running
Hourly billing rewards slow work. I quote one fixed price for the scope we agree, and it only changes if you change the scope.
Senior work, priced in the middle
Market rates are from the published sources in my app design cost guide.
| What you get | With me | Freelancer | Agency |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who does the work | A senior design engineer, from first call to launch | One person, level varies | A team, often juniors on the day to day |
| Design and code in one place | Yes | Rarely | Yes, across departments |
| How you are charged | One fixed price for the scope | $20 to $40 an hour on Upwork | $100 to $149 an hour in the US |
| Your time spent managing | Low: one weekly review | High | Low |
| Price fixed before the work starts | Yes | Sometimes | Sometimes |
Four things decide the number
- 01
Platforms
A web app, an iPhone app and an Android app are three surfaces to design and test, even when they share a system.
- 02
Size
The number of pages or screens, and their states, is the biggest single driver. It is why the calculator asks for it.
- 03
Complexity
Payments, sign-in, AI features and data-heavy dashboards take more thought per screen than a page of text.
- 04
Languages
A second language, especially right to left, touches every screen, so I design both together rather than translate at the end.
The estimate is free. So is the call.
- Free
Estimate
The calculator on this page. Free, a minute, no email needed.
- Free
Free intro call
30 minutes on your product, your users and your deadline.
- Step 3
Scope and one fixed quote
Every screen and state written down, priced once, dates agreed.
- Step 4
Weekly rounds
Design and code you review every week, so nothing waits until the end.
- Step 5
Launch
Released, handed over, and fixes for what real use finds.

PiyushFounder, Xcelerete- No, it is a range from my past projects. After a free intro call I write a scope that lists every screen and state, and quote one fixed price for it. That number does not change unless you change the scope.
- A landing page design, or a UX review of a product you already have. The calculator shows what a landing page costs.
- Because the work is the same. Every client gets the same prices, set between typical Asian and US rates, and quoted as one fixed price so you never watch hours.
- The payment dates are written into the scope and agreed before the work starts, so you know what is due and when.
- Third-party costs: hosting, domains, paid fonts, stock licences, app store fees and the services your product connects to. I list the ones your project needs in the scope.
- Yes. Many projects start with design. If you want me to build it afterwards, the build is quoted on its own, and nothing from the design is redone.
- Ask each one what is included: the screen count, the states, the second language, the handoff. My app design cost guide lists the published market rates I used.
